QUALITY STANDARD ACHIEVED WILL BOOST OPPORTUNITIES
Birstall based manufacturer James Bedford has achieved the highly regarded internationally recognised business management standard ISO9001-2000 awarded by the British Standards Institute (BSI) on the 10th May 2006.
Working with Nigel Albans of Quality Improvements UK Ltd the standard was met at the first attempt. This will enable James Bedford to work closely with distributors on large scale projects with the likes of the Ministry of Defence and Blue Chip Companies.
Bedford’s are an established market leading manufacturer and supplier of industrial steel products including workbenches, trolleys, storage cabinets and toolboxes. The company also produces bespoke products, including stainless steel items for food and pharmaceutical industries.

Pauline Archer, Managing Director for James Bedford said “We have achieved good levels of growth over recent years and achieving ISO9001 from the leading accreditation body is part of the next step for James Bedford. We have formalised existing systems and introduced new systems and controls that are already benefiting our customers. We can now control and review these systems to make sure we are meeting targets in terms of product conformity and consistency, staff training and development and corrective actions to name a few”
Nigel Albans of Quality Improvements said “Achieving the standard will enable James Bedford to target a wider customer base than before and existing customers will be reassured that their needs can be met.”
The project has been part funded through the Mid Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce.
Looking to expand, Bedford’s have recently invested in a new Panel bending machine and a 2nd punch press to cope with demand and subsequently recruited more staff. The firm now has 35 employees and its current turnover of £2m is growing.
