Leeds-based James Bedford & Co Ltd, is bucking the trend in UK manufacturing with a steady stream of orders and posting consistent profits over the past four years. This leading UK manufacturer of workplace storage and transport equipment has recently appointed Daniel Cookland as their new Director of Operations.

Dan is the third generation of his family to be appointed onto to Board. His grandfather, Ernest Howker acquired the firm over 40 years ago and Dan’s mother, Angela Cookland is the current Managing Director.

Since joining the firm after graduating from Leeds Metropolitan University, Dan has ensured he experiences all aspects of the business including spending time on the shopfloor gaining valuable experience of the manufacturing process and also getting to grips with the administration, purchasing and sales departments.

In his new role as Operations Director he is focusing on retaining profitability by growing turnover in new markets and rigorously containing costs. To help him achieve his full professional potential, Dan is a long-standing member of Vistage UK an organisation specialising in executive leadership development.

JAMES BEDFORD & CO. (DEWSBURY) LTD IS 35 THIS YEAR!!
The company has manufactured workbenches and tubular furniture for over a century as part of various groups and independently. However in April 2009 the company will have been trading as an independent family owned business for 35 years. Based originally in Dewsbury and then the Howden Clough area of Batley and as of 2004 in a 25,000 sq foot factory, with purpose built 4,000 sq foot warehousing in a 2 1/2 acre site adjacent to junction 27 of the M62.

The company has achieved steady growth in the 35 years of trading and is now looking to the next 35 with continued growth expectations.

JAMES BEDFORD - EXHIBITIONS 2009
The company are pleased to announce that we will be exhibiting our best selling hazardous cabinet range at the Northern Health & Safety Exhibition held at the Bolton Reebox stadium. Managing Director Pauline Archer announced her retirement in November 2008 after 30+ years with the company in various roles. Fellow Director, sister Angela Cookland is assuming full control of the business from January 2009.
